Placenta Encapsulation

Good beginnings make a positive difference in the world, so it is worth our while to provide the best possible care for mothers and babies throughout this extraordinarily influential part of life. — Ina May Gaskin

The placenta is the lifeblood of the baby, faithfully supplying fluids, nutrients and oxygen as your little one grows in utero. For thousands of years Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has thought of the placenta as a powerful and invaluable part of the postpartum healing process. Full of Qi: Life Energy the placenta aids in postpartum wellness by replenishing your body with natural iron, protein and helps balance essential hormones in your system.
Placenta encapsulation involves carefully preparing the placenta after birth using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Method, the Raw Method or a combination of both.

In all methods the placenta is lovingly returned to the mother to take as a nourishing daily supplement. This beautiful organ nourishes a baby throughout pregnancy and can help nourish the mother post birth.

Your placenta will be picked up from your place of birth within 24 hours of delivery, and deliver the encapsulated placenta to your home within 48 hours following pick up.

Preparation Methods

Traditional Chinese Method (TCM)

This is the oldest known and most commonly used preparation. Your placenta is carefully rinsed, steamed with ginger and lemon, and then dehydrated. Once dehydrated, the placenta is finely ground into a powder and placed in vegetarian capsules. In Chinese theory, the raw placenta is considered cold yin energy and therefore unsuitable for postpartum healing. The placenta is therefore steamed to add heat (yang) energy helping to bring out its nourishing and toning properties making it healing for the uterus.

Raw Method

Your placenta is carefully rinsed and slowly dehydrated. Once completely dehydrated, the placenta is finely ground into a powder and placed in vegetarian capsules. This method is based on the idea that heat destroys vital enzymes in food, so by skipping the steaming step, the Raw method preserves any enzymes or hormones that may have been destroyed during the heating process. This method usually yields more capsules than the TCM method and they come in a more potent form, so less pills are required to be taken through the day and they will last longer.
